Trends of Applied Microbiology for Sustainable Economy

Agriculture has seen dramatic changes since the time of its inception. Starting with the domestication of wild plants to small-scale traditional farming and then growing into large-scale, chemical-intensive agriculture. It is at a crossroads once again. It already puts a huge amount of pressure on available natural resources like -soil, water, and biodiversity which is bound to increase with the ever-growing human population. It is, therefore, imperative to understand the challenges associated with these demographic changes must meet the twin challenges of feeding a growing population while simultaneously minimizing its global environmental impacts. Microorganisms offer a green and environmentally friendly approach to promote plant growth and development. Moreover, they have been observed to be more economic than their chemical counterparts. However, detailed structural and functional characterization is essential for utilizing their full potential. In this scenario, Trends of Applied Microbiology for a sustainable Economy besides documenting the latest advancements in biofertilizers research extends the understanding of their mass production and commercialization. Trends of Applied Microbiology for a Sustainable Economy discuss the role of modern tools and next-generation technologies in applied microbial research.
