Too Late For Who?

For many years of my life, one question quietly followed me everywhere:
What will people say?
What will they think if I try?
What will they say if I fail?
What if I start a business and nobody supports me?
What if I write the book and nobody buys it?
What if I begin to speak and people think I am trying to show off?
What if I finally become visible and the people who knew the old version of me refuse to accept the person I am becoming?
These questions may sound simple, but they have buried more dreams than failure ever could.
Many people are not living below their potential because they lack gifts, intelligence, experience or ideas. They are living below their potential because they are afraid of being seen.
They are afraid of criticism.
Afraid of rejection.
Afraid of embarrassment.
Afraid of being misunderstood.
Afraid that people will call them proud.
Afraid that their friends will say they have changed.
And so, instead of becoming who God created them to be, they shrink.
They hide.
They procrastinate.
They overthink.
They keep preparing but never begin.
They watch other people doing the very things they have been dreaming about doing for years.
And somewhere deep inside, they know:
There is more in me.
