At its centre is Henryk.

Born into war, taken by the Nazis as a child, and recovered against all odds, his life should have been defined by survival alone. Instead, it carried him into another system of control - Communist Poland, where loyalty was monitored, and refusal came at a cost.

His father had already survived what should have ended him: forced labour, imprisonment, and the concentration camp system. That history shaped everything - a life built on endurance, discipline, and an understanding of power that was never theoretical. Henryk inherited that legacy.

Intelligent, multilingual, and quietly independent, he built a career with LOT, travelling internationally at a time when business, diplomacy, and intelligence were tightly intertwined. Like many in that position, he was expected to cooperate - to observe, report, and serve the state beyond his official role.

He refused.

What followed was not immediate, but it was inevitable.

In 1988, after a series of unexplained movements across Helsinki and Copenhagen - involving commercial negotiations, state-linked individuals, and unanswered questions - Henryk disappeared. Days later, he was found dead. The official version did not hold. Witnesses contradicted themselves. Access was blocked. Evidence didn't align.
