The Quiet

The room goes silent. The man in the doorway should not be there.

Alex has spent a lifetime learning to manage his attention. He knows how easily a task can swallow an afternoon, how noise can overwhelm him, how much he can miss while noticing something nobody else does.

This feels different.

There are gaps he cannot account for. A voice he cannot place. A stranger who appears to be trying to tell him something.

Then a photograph gives the stranger a name-and Alex learns that the man is dead.

Sarah wants to help. But helping means asking questions Alex does not always want to answer: What did he actually hear? What did he learn afterward? How much of the story has he already supplied himself?

The dead man's sister has kept his letters. A researcher offers a reasonable explanation. As Sarah begins putting the accounts beside one another, the discrepancies become harder to dismiss.

So does the damage Alex is doing to their life.

Science has explanations for unreliable memory, missing time, and the feeling that someone is standing in an empty room. Those explanations have always offered Sarah a measure of security.

She is about to discover how much she depends on them.

The Quiet is a slow-burning supernatural thriller about perception, grief, and the fragile trust between what we experience and what we can prove.
