This essay reconsiders Heidegger's problem of Nothing by shifting the question from what Nothing is to what Nothing does to the experience of beings. Neither a thing, a substance, a region, nor a symmetrical opposite of Being, Nothing does not designate the disappearance of beings. In anxiety, beings remain present, but lose their obviousness and their power to constitute a self-evident horizon. Nothing thus appears as withdrawal, as nichten: an operation without an operator that interrupts ontic closure. The essay follows this movement from the logical problem of Nothing to its phenomenological experience, from withdrawal to the opening of beings, and finally to withdrawal as a structural dimension of Heidegger's later thought. It proposes the concept of an "ontology of disadhesion" to describe the loosening through which beings cease to adhere to their own obviousness. Nothing does not establish a new ontology; it makes ontology possible by preventing beings from presenting themselves as sufficient in themselves.
