The Heroin Heist

Roberto Baptista, John's sponsor in the crime syndicate and business partner, is an obnoxious, condescending, arrogant, racist, rude, misogynistic person who sounds like a gangster. John must leave Baptista on the dock in Puerto Galera while John tries to make a deal on a yacht owned by a couple of hippies at their hillside 'Big Bamboo' house. The next morning, John returns with a deal, finds Baptista at a restaurant next to the ferry dock, and before he can share the good news, Baptista lays into him with insults and innuendo for everyone to hear. With blood boiling, John throws Baptista's food tray in the bay, then charges through tables and chairs before pinning Baptista by the throat and threatening to beat him to death. John then tells Baptista he's out of the deal. John finds the Chinese backers and boards the ferry back to Manila. Baptista must find John and apologize before the ferry lands. 

The partnership doesn't get any better, though John is aware that Baptista intends to murder him once they arrive in Australia. But for now, on the way to Hong Kong, they avoid an expected pirate attack; the yacht, named 'Oui ', loses engine power, hydraulic steering, and takes on water. They arrive a week late, and a red Chinese fishing junk tows them into Hong Kong.

The 'Oui' is refitted, John is ordered to move to a particular hotel off the island where John's room is bugged by the syndicate, the Filipino crew is changed to a British crew chosen by Baptista, and finally, on the day they are set to sail to Australia, Baptista and John are told to do a run-about to see if they are being watched by police. Then they hustle the two men into a Mercedes and whisk them through the island tunnel to the south shore. On the roadside, the Mercedes stops. The trunk is opened, and only John is dragged out and pushed to the rear of the car. He wasn't going in; the large shipment of heroin was coming out.
