Holiday travel is stressful, no matter the mode. But when your reasons have far deeper implications than gathering for turkey, pumpkin pie, and a family gift exchange, they can cause stresses not so easily overcome. Joseph Smith is travelling by train through some of the largest cities in the eastern United States, with overflow crowds at every stop. If his reasons for making this trek weren't so ominous, he'd have turned around at the first stop to spend the holidays alone in his tiny one-bedroom apartment.
Some things, however, just have to be done.
"Christmas in Cambridge" is a poignant, introspective drama that follows Joseph (Joe) Smith, a cynical, sixty-something reclusive novelist, as he makes a painful journey to Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Christmas Eve to bury his mother. The narrative explores themes of deep-seated family trauma, paralyzing guilt, and the thin line between self-preservation and suffocating isolation.
A chance meeting with Carrie, a recently divorced woman, just might have played a large role in freeing Joe from a lifelong self-imposed prison.
