Student Textbook: TABE 13 and 14 Language Test Level E

This student textbook is designed to prepare adult learners for the TABE 13 and 14 Language Test Level E and for admission tests for vocational training. It presents exercises that will help adult education and workforce programs and their learners meet the expectations of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

The textbook is organized into three (3) main sections: 1) Text types and purposes, 2) Knowledge of language and vocabulary, and 3) Conventions of standard English.

This language arts textbook presents twelve (12) chapters, sixty (60) engaging language arts lessons, and one practice test with answer keys. Each lesson also includes answer keys.

Furthermore, this textbook teaches learners to apply the SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review) reading method to improve their reading comprehension and recall. This book's language arts activities teach and assess the following skills:

• Write short paragraphs expressing opinions on various topics and supporting those views with arguments.
• Write informative/explanatory paragraphs to share ideas and information.
• Write narratives to describe events.
• Apply English grammar and conventions when writing, reading, and answering questions orally.
• Determine the meanings of new words and phrases using context clues.
• Show comprehension of word relationships and nuances in verb tense and word usage.
• Use words and phrases appropriately to complete sentences, engage in conversations, and write short paragraphs.
• Engage in academic conversations using general academic concepts and domain-specific vocabulary, concepts, and phrases.
• Apply English grammar and conventions in writing and speaking.
• Effectively apply the conventions of standard English (capitalization, punctuation, and spelling) when writing.

This textbook saves instructors time and helps learners move beyond simple WH- questions to complete reading and language tasks. Its exercises mimic the rigor of the real TABE Language Test.
