Vibrations are a common problem in many civil engineering structures, and as such, insights into the principles of structures designed for dynamic loads involves expertise in modern, computer-based methods. The book focuses on practical applications. The subject of earthquake resistant design of structures also is approached in a holistic manner, describing both the underlying geophysical concepts and the latest engineering design methods. Applications are illustrated by a large number of fully worked examples, which are based on the latest versions of the relevant structural codes. The spectral characteristics of turbulent wind processes and the main analysis methods in the field of structural oscillations due to wind gusts and vortex shedding are introduced and explained. The most recent code methods are applied and compared using realistic examples of slender chimney structures. Downloadable, user-friendly software for problem solving is available.
