Excerpt from State of Rhode Island; Arbor-Day Programme, May 3, 1895 The Norway maple comes later, and forms a large head, some two or three inches in diameter, of greenish-yellow żowers. After this follows the sycamore maple, with a fragrant tassel of subdued color and feathery form, and, last of all, near the opening of May, appears the sugar maple, with a slight and very delicate tuft of bloom, in which the sterile blossoms hang on slender pedicels like a fringe below the fertile ones.
