Annelise and her retired DEA, ATF and FBI buddies uncloak a bane psychopath whose acrimonious methodology is more menacing than the killer who caused her early retirement. The plot line involves a female serial killer that's in the business of authenticating the DNA pedigrees of babies being sold as the illegitimate offspring of professional athletes. The high dollar infant sales drop dramatically after Annelise discovers the killer is also out to kill her family and the FBI guy who doesn't want her books published.
