Iran built two secret services and let them compete. Then the war came.

The Ministry of Intelligence and the Guards' intelligence arm grew out of the same revolution and spent four decades as rivals. Together they hunted exiles across Europe, reached Buenos Aires and Beirut, ran the Quds Force network from Iraq to Yemen, and concealed a nuclear weapons effort from inspectors for years.

They also failed at the job that mattered most. Israel carried off the nuclear archive from a Tehran warehouse, killed scientists on Iranian roads, and in June 2025 struck from inside the country. In 2026 the Supreme Leader himself was tracked and killed, along with his intelligence minister and the head of the Guards' intelligence.
