Savanna Skies

The old trunk hums. The latch clicks free. "Africa!" gasps Journey. "That's home to me!"

In their first adventure, the Passport Pals climb aboard the Wandering Trunk, now a patchwork hot-air balloon, and drift over the golden Serengeti to Journey's homeland. But they soon find a baby elephant all alone in the tall grass. Her herd has moved on with the migration, and she can't find her way back.

Every Pal has a part to play. Voyage promises they'll find her family. Compass reads the tracks in the dusty ground, and Journey's long neck spots a faint dust cloud on the horizon. Atlas asks a friendly heron for directions by the Nile. Roam decides the Sahara is far too hot for elephants, so they turn back through the baobab trees and beneath snowy Mount Kilimanjaro, until a thundering herd of grey giants comes galloping into view.

Savanna Skies is a rhyming read-aloud about helping a new friend find her way home. It ends with an Africa Fun Fact File and a Try It at Home activity for young explorers.
