Safe and Sprouting

Grace and Jack are visiting Aunt Kiki's greenhouse, a giant glass house full of tall tomato plants, bright flowers and busy honeybees. And Fire Marshal Mac is there too!

Grace becomes his Safety Captain and Jack his Sprout Inspector as they do a safety walk through the greenhouse. They learn that heaters need space, how to use cords and plugs the safe way, why dry plant stuff burns fast, why only grown-ups use chemicals and gas, and how to find the exits and a meeting spot in any new place.

Safe and sprouting!

Inside this warm, playful picture book:

• Heaters need space: stay three big steps back
• Pull the plug, never the cord, and tell a grown-up if a cord feels warm
• Dry leaves, straw and wood chips burn fast: no matches, lighters or sparks
• Only grown-ups use chemicals and gas. See a bottle? Don't touch, tell a grown-up
• Find the exits and pick a meeting spot whenever you go somewhere new
• A greenhouse safety checklist, a draw-your-own-safety-map page, and tips for grown-ups

Written by a fire marshal and fire-and-life-safety educator who teaches these lessons to children every year. Perfect for ages 4-8, classrooms and gardening families.
