Rural Infrastructure

This book looks at a few indicative aspects of rural infrastructure facilities in India, without which the dream of achieving a sustainable economic development would remain a dream only. The objective of this book is to look at rural infrastructure in all its aspects and present examples of how various parts of the country as well as comparable developing countries have resolved the problems and emerging issues. The book throws up a few ideas about how private infrastructure can be financed and managed. The problems of rural infrastructure provision are different from those of the urban, given the smaller size, density and per capita incomes of rural agglomerations. It is necessary, therefore, to have a public-private partnership where innovations are developed and a "stretching" of incentives provided by the government through suitable leveraging would help to direct private investment towards these disadvantaged areas. It is hoped, that the book would be useful to practitioners in NGO''s, State and Central Departments, delivery wings of national and International Agencies as well as leading academic and training Institutions. All efforts have been made to select aspects of Rural Infrastructure, which are practical and related to the ground level reality in India, and also to discus these ground level issues (where possible, with successful examples in India or in comparable countries).
