Provenienz ist heute ein zentraler Gegenstand für Sammlungs- und Gedächtnisinstitutionen: Wie haben Flucht, Emigration und Krieg die Überlieferungssituation zur deutschen Literatur geprägt?Nicht nur Museen und Galerien, auch Bibliotheken und Archive stellen sich zunehmend der Frage nach der Rechtmäßigkeit der Herkunft und der Überlieferungswege ihrer Bestände. Die Aufarbeitung von Provenienz trägt dazu bei, der Forderung nach mehr Transparenz zu begegnen. Außerdem beleuchtet sie das Zusammenspiel von privatem Sammlungsinteresse, institutioneller Sammlungspolitik, gewerblichem Buchhandel und literaturwissenschaftlichem Forschungsinteresse. Der vorliegende Band lotet wesentliche Aspekte des Themas aus: die Akteur:innen privaten und öffentlichen Büchersammelns, die Instrumente der Provenienzforschung, den literarischen und literaturwissenschaftlichen Diskurs um Provenienzen. Dazu kommen Fallstudien zu einzelnen Autor:innen und dem Umgang mit ihren Nachlässen von 1700 bis in die Gegenwart. Nicht zuletzt nimmt der Band »das Ästhetische der Provenienz« in den Blick und fragt, wie das Wissen um die Überlieferung und frühere Aneignungsakte eines Textes die Lektüre verändert. Der Band bringt auf diese Weise zwei Ebenen in Verbindung - die Aufmerksamkeit für Überlieferungswege von Texten einerseits und die Aufmerksamkeit der Literatur für Überlieferungsfäden andererseits.
