From the introduction:
When Literary Club members were invited to write about "Places," the
idea struck a welcome note. They responded with a veritable cornucopia
of prose, poems, a play, and even the start of a novel. Their talented
output is on display in this 2026 collection, the fifth in a current series
of books from a club in its 176th year of celebrating the wonders of the
written word.
In this volume, readers will encounter warm profiles of life in small-
town Ohio, disturbing memories of the terrors of war, journeys back
to childhood homes from Mexico to Mother Russia, visits to familiar
neighborhoods in the Queen City, and much more about "places" -
and even in one instance about "no place."
Of special note are twin essays constituting something of a tale of
two cities-one a penetrating look by a native son who has watched
the rise and fall and rise again of Cleveland, and the other a first-person
account from the archives documenting how a Literary Club member led
the civic uprising in the Cincinnati of the 1920's that threw out corrupt
boss rule.
