Long before the oceans of Cratch'e shimmered with life, two ancient souls were set on a path shaped by the Creator. She was a daughter of divine light who longed to feel love the way mortals did. He was a man who made a sacred choice. He split his heart in two and cast half of it into the universe, trusting that it would find the soul meant to complete him.

Zachara believed he found that soul in Sophia and gave his devotion to her. She belonged to another, her true mate, Thordal, and the mistake brought tragedy. Zachara was imprisoned for a thousand years. When he returned, the world had changed.
