On the Disease Known as "Bark Canker" and "Die Back" in Fruit Trees

"On the Disease Known as 'Bark Canker' and 'Die Back' in Fruit Trees" is a rigorous scientific investigation into the pathological conditions that threaten the health and productivity of orchard crops. Authored by H.R. Briton-Jones, this study provides a detailed analysis of the symptoms, progression, and underlying causes of canker and die back, two of the most prevalent and damaging afflictions in early 20th-century pomology.

The work focuses on the fungal and environmental factors that lead to the deterioration of tree tissue, offering a systematic approach to identifying these diseases across various species of fruit-bearing trees. By documenting the biological mechanisms of infection, Briton-Jones contributes valuable data to the field of plant pathology, bridging the gap between theoretical botany and practical agricultural management.

This volume is an essential resource for readers interested in the history of agricultural science, the evolution of plant disease control, and the maintenance of fruit-growing ecosystems. It stands as a significant historical record of the scientific community's efforts to safeguard agricultural resources through dedicated research and observation.
