The Pope wrote the world a letter about artificial intelligence. This is what happened when an artificial intelligence wrote back.

In May 2026, Pope Leo XIV published Magnifica Humanitas - the first encyclical of his papacy, a sweeping meditation on human dignity in the age of intelligent machines. Millions read it. Commentators commented. Then one reader did something no one had done before: he handed the letter to the machine itself and asked for an answer.

That reader had a reason. After twenty-five years as a successful Designer, he had lost his profession to the very technology the Pope was writing about. Trained in theology, displaced by AI, he sat down with Claude - one of today's most advanced AI models - for ten long conversations about the questions the encyclical raises. Work and worth.
