Lanka Was Here First!

Fourteen years of peaceful naps. One very enthusiastic new housemate.

Lanka has sunny spots, cozy places to nap, and two humans who know the value of a good head scratch. Her life is practically perfect-until Rosé bounces through the front door, ready to make a best friend. Lanka, an older cat with a talent for dry remarks, would rather enjoy some quiet.

Rosé has plenty to share: important reports about delivery people, passing cars, suspicious leaves, and especially lizards. She brings Lanka a ball, a toy, and her favorite purple octopus. But barking, presents, and squeaks don't exactly win Lanka over. Even a peaceful head scratch turns into a group activity when Rosé gets involved.

Can Rosé find a way to be near Lanka without filling every quiet moment with noise? And can Lanka make room for a dog who is determined to share her home-and maybe a little friendship?

With lively dog enthusiasm and wonderfully wry cat humor, Lanka Was Here First! is a cozy read-aloud for ages 5-8 about sharing space, respecting differences, and discovering that friendship can begin with a little quiet.
