Jam Manalo, a fifteen-year-old Filipino American, is tired of moving from one place to another as her mother seeks spiritual mediums to contact her late father. Feeling invisible at yet another new school, Jam's life changes when she befriends a quiet, mysterious boy she calls ES, only to discover he's a ghost, needing help to deliver a final message to his mother.
Realizing she can see the dead, Jam strikes a deal with ES. She'll help him find closure if he helps her find her father.
But when their search uncovers a hidden family secret, they are left with an uncertainty that could either help ES cross over and allow Jam to finally go back home or trap ES between worlds forever and force Jam to be uprooted once more, with no promise of belonging.
