The selected passages offer the reader a rich assortment of material usable for discussion and analysis. The work collects a wide variety of materials on both Italian fascism and anti-fascism. While the historical significance of fascism and anti-fascism is still being debated in Italy and across Europe, this anthology offers a wide-ranging collection of documents. It provides a comprehensive range and concern with historiographical debates, and a long introductory essay as well as notes to each selection, a glossary and an extensive "guide to further reading". It also describes and depicts a wide range of voices - political, literary, popular - that illuminate the 20 year period of fascism and anti-fascism in Italy. Previously unavailable documents are presented, including letters from women to Mussolini and anti-fascist graffiti from a Nazi prison in Rome.
