Jocasta Bell is thirty-eight, freshly divorced, and has traded a five-bedroom house in Guildford for a damp fisherman's cottage in Porthgarrow - a Cornish village where everybody already knows your business before you've worked out how to tell it yourself.

Between an ex-husband who isn't quite finished with her, a postmistress running odds on how long it'll last, and a father who once taught Jago that leaving is easier than staying, Porthgarrow has no shortage of ways to prove the locals right: it really is horrid here.
It might also be exactly where she's supposed to be.
