Frost's Winter Tales

Ten cozy winter stories, told by the one who paints frost on your windows.

Meet Frost. Every winter he comes from the icy North to the village of Pinebrook with a sack of snowflakes, a paintbrush made of ice, and lots and lots of glass. He nips at noses, piles up snowdrifts, and sees everything that happens in the snow. Now he wants to tell your child about it.

In Pinebrook, small choices make the winter warmer. Three friends dig a path through a blizzard for a neighbor who lives alone. Lily follows a frosty paw print and finds a kitten who has never had a home. Ben and Dylan turn their friend Ryan into a snowman who says hello to everyone who walks by. And little Sophie finally catches the sneaky visitor who keeps eating her snowman's carrot nose.

Inside this book

• 10 bedtime stories of kindness, friendship, and winter fun, each short enough for one sitting
• Gentle laughs, from a talking snowman to a big fifth-grader who wraps his scarf around three times and still says he's not cold
• Winter animals children love: a gray kitten, a ginger kitten, a hungry rabbit, chickadees, and a bright red cardinal
• Make Your Own Bird Café: an easy pinecone bird feeder to make with a grown-up
• Frost's Winter Mazes: two maze pages based on the stories, with solutions
• Full-color illustrations throughout, in a soft watercolor style

Frost speaks straight to the listener as "little one," so each story feels like a secret shared at bedtime. The kindness is small and real, the kind a child can copy the very next day: shoveling a path, filling a bird feeder, noticing someone who is sad.
