This project investigates improving borosilicate glass by developing a composite reinforced with alumina (Al2O ) and copper oxide (Cu2O) to reduce brittleness and enhance mechanical performance for applications like pharmaceutical and food packaging. Although borosilicate glass is widely valued for its thermal stability and chemical resistance, its relatively low mechanical strength limits its reliability, especially where breakage is a concern. To address this, the study explores the use of reinforcement materials, selecting alumina due to its high hardness, wear resistance, and compatibility, while also examining copper oxide for its potential contribution to microstructural enhancement.The composite materials are prepared using a powder metallurgy. Various compositions are created by adding 10%, 20%, and 30% of alumina and copper oxide individually and in combination with borosilicate. The fabricated samples are then tested using Micro Vickers hardness testing, optical microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to evaluateevaluate mechanical and microstructural properties.
