Exodus

Exodus tells how God heard the cry of slaves, broke the power of Pharaoh, gave his law at Sinai, and came to dwell among his people. This volume works through all forty chapters, from the midwives of Egypt to the glory filling the tabernacle.

Boxed articles take up the name I AM, the hardening of Pharaoh's heart, the plagues as judgment on the gods of Egypt, the Passover and the Lord's Supper, the crossing of the sea, the covenant at Sinai, the threefold division of the law, images and worship, slavery in the law of Moses, the judicial law and the modern state, the tabernacle as a type of Christ, the Spirit's gifts to Bezalel, and the question of whether God changes his mind.

Excursuses address verses often used out of context, including "I am the LORD, your healer" and the teaching on generational curses. Each section ends with practical points for ministry and discipleship.

The Word Made Plain is a verse-by-verse commentary on the whole Bible for pastors, teachers, and serious readers of Scripture. Each volume introduces its book in depth, works through every passage in its historical and literary setting, traces how the church has read it from the fathers to the present, and closes each section with practical points for life and ministry. Reformed in doctrine, Charismatic in practice, and historical in method, the series sets out the major views fairly on disputed questions and says plainly where it stands.
