At twenty-six years of age, after suffering a hip fracture that left Eliot on crutches for six months with titanium pins implanted in his left femur so he could walk without the feeling of pain, Eliot decided it was time to get some answers. For twenty years he had always asked his parents and doctors why he had epilepsy. He was usually told that there was no explanation. Anybody who has been on anticonvulsant medication should be screened for osteoporosis and be regularly taking calcium fortified with vitamin D.
