El Ghomayda

7ajini is a children's book series that invites young and old alike to discover the Algerian dialect through fun and engaging stories. It introduces everyday vocabulary and activities that encourage language learning while also helping readers explore Algerian culture. The series uses Arabizi as a bridge to learning the Arabic language.

Arabizi is a writing system that transcribes spoken Arabic dialects, such as Algerian Darija, using the Latin alphabet along with a few numbers to represent Arabic sounds that do not exist in French (for example, the number 3 for the Arabic letter ع and 7 for ح).

Readers can learn to pronounce words and expressions in the Algerian dialect before they are ready to learn the Arabic alphabet. Arabizi is not presented as an end goal, but as an educational tool that makes the transition to reading and writing Arabic easier.

El Ghomayda, the first book in the 7ajini series, follows three cousins on a joyful game of hide-and-seek in their grandmother's house. Throughout their adventure, young readers discover the Algerian dialect by learning words related to essential beginner language-learning themes, along with an illustrated pronunciation guide for the unique sounds of the Arabic language.

The following topics are covered in El Ghomayda:

• Numbers from 1 to 10
• Spatial concepts (on, under, in front of, behind, inside, outside, etc.)
• Everyday words and expressions (approximately 64 words)

To extend the learning experience, each book is accompanied by its own set of illustrated vocabulary cards, designed to help children remember the words and expressions introduced in the story. These cards encourage interaction and play between children, parents, and grandparents while promoting the transmission of both language and culture. The vocabulary cards are sold separately.

The 7ajini universe also includes pronunciation guides and other educational resources designed to support families, teachers, and anyone interested in learning or passing on the Algerian dialect.
