Many people who exercise habitually or recreationally have experienced muscle soreness as a result of that exercise. Delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) generally occurs within 12 to 24 hours post-exercise and subsides within 5 to 7 days. Symptoms of DOMS include increased sensation of pain with movement and palpation, decreased range of motion, decreased strength, and decreases in athletic performance. Several treatments and therapeutic modalities have been studied for their effects on reducing the signs and symptoms of DOMS, but results have been contradictory. One therapeutic modality that has garnered some interest and popularity in recent years has been the Kinesio® taping method. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the Kinesio® taping method had any effects on perceived pain, elbow range of motion, and upper-arm circumference during the recovery from DOMS over a 72 hour period.
