Based on the case studies, this book attempts to identify and highlight the challenges and potentials of private sectors involvement in disaster management, and it collects good practices of the private sectors involvement in disaster management from various countries. The importance and needs of the involvement of private sectors is increased, however, their expected roles in disaster management and the approaches and level of their interventions vary based on each country context. For instance, they can play a role in disaster response preparedness by preparing a stockpile of food and water to share with communities under emergencies and training their own staff in first aid and emergency rescue. In addition, they can contribute to developing innovative products for disaster management and business model. A business continuity plan is also critical to maintain their business and supply chain to continue providing necessary items and goods. The knowledge and interests of private sectors towards disaster management are still limited and it is necessary to advocate the needs widely.
