De Occasionariis Et Recidivis

"De Occasionariis Et Recidivis" is a profound exploration of Catholic moral theology and the practical application of the Sacrament of Penance. Authored by Franciscus Ter Haar, a distinguished member of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (C.SS.R.), this work addresses two of the most challenging categories of penitents encountered by confessors: the "occasionarii"-those who find themselves in the proximate occasion of sin-and the "recidivi"-habitual or repeat sinners.

The text provides a rigorous theological analysis of the requirements for valid absolution, focusing on the necessity of true contrition and a firm purpose of amendment. Ter Haar draws upon established canonical traditions and the teachings of the Church to provide clergy with a clear framework for evaluating the dispositions of the faithful. By examining the delicate balance between pastoral mercy and the objective demands of moral law, the work serves as a guide for ensuring the spiritual integrity of the confessional. This treatise is an essential resource for those interested in the history of Catholic sacramental practice, the development of moral theology in the early 20th century, and the specific pastoral traditions of the Redemptorist order.
