Will man diese Frage schlüssig beantworten, kommt man nicht umhin, an die Dampflokzeit zu erinnern: Als Eisenbahnfotografen mit Namen gelten zuerst jene Lichtbildner, die bedeutende Teile ihres Schaffens der Dampflok gewidmet haben. Günter Scheibe gehört ohne jeden Zweifel zu ihnen. Wachen Sinnes erkannte er vor über 40 Jahren die Zeichen der Zeit und wusste um die Endlichkeit der Symbole einer großen Eisenbahnepoche. Mit seinem Einstieg in die Dampflokfotografie waren ihm noch Motive vergönnt, die kurz darauf für immer verschwanden. Somit durchaus privilegiert, blieb dem unverzagt um Niveau und Handschrift bemühten Günter Scheibe ein Lernprozess jedoch nicht erspart. Er hat ihn mit Bravour bewältigt und zu einem Stil gefunden, der unverkennbar macht, wann man einen echten Scheibe vor sich hat. Seine Fotomethodik gilt unter Gleichgesinnten längst als legendär: Wo andere Fans beim Wettlauf um das schönste Motiv bereits aufgegeben hatten, fand Günter Scheibe Mittel und Wege, Argumente und Orte, Leitern und Worte, um Unwiederbringliches in Szene zu setzen. ..."
