Code mixing and switching is natural in bilingual and multilingual settings in general and bilingual Hindi English speech community in particular. This book belies the fact that code-mixing and code-switching is not arbitrary, in fact it is natural and patterned. It also postulates certain constraints on code mixing and cod-switching. Also, there is a difference between the code mixing by the people who are not competent in the language they are mixing and the people who are competent in the language. This is the fact that in a bilingual and multilingual setting, children acquire mixed language competence and that becomes their inbuilt part of the mother tongue(s) they use.
