Clinical Topics in Disorders of Intellectual Development

This clinically focused text deals with the care of adults and children who have developmental disabilities (termed disorders of intellectual development in the forthcoming ICD-11). It covers a wide range of topics relevant to the care of this population and is a comprehensive update on the field that aims to inform clinical practice. The focus is on their mental health and behavioural needs, including service related issues. There are references to the up to date evidence-based literature throughout. There is also specific focus on the interface between developmental disabilities and forensics, genetics, ageing and epilepsy. There is a whole section devoted to the diagnosis, assessment and management of children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Most chapters have been specially commissioned for this book, whilst previous versions of a few were once published in the journal Advances in Psychiatric Treatment and have now been updated. All the chapter authors are eminent clinicians who are experts in their field. This text is written for all psychiatrists, including trainees, and other mental health and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals working with children and adults who have developmental disabilities.
