Kennan über Helmuth James von Moltke, den Mittelpunkt der Widerstandsgruppe "Kreisauer Kreis". Der Band enthält jene Briefe, die von Moltke seit 1939 beinahe täglich an seine Frau gerichtet hat. Die Briefe vermitteln wie nur wenige Dokumente dieser Zeit ein Bild von Deutschland in den letzten Jahren des Nationalsozialismus und sind zugleich ein ergreifendes Zeugnis der Bemühungen dieses Mannes, sich der Unmenschlichkeit und dem Unrecht entgegenzustellen.
