Recently, death from breast cancer has dropped§significantly in the United States due to early§detection and effective treatment. DCE-MRI has§emerged as a promising technique for detecting,§diagnosing, and staging breast cancer.§Computer-aided detection systems have proven to be§useful for evaluating the large number of images§produced. The next logical step is to implement§computer-aided diagnostic systems. §This book describes the development of a§computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) research system for§investigating breast MRI masses. It shows that§computerized algorithms are reliable, have the§potential to reduce inter and intra-observer§variations, radiologist workload, and facilitate§image interpretation. With an ever growing number of§images and expanding clinical applications, CAD§systems might play an integral role in breast imaging.
