In kultureller Verantwortung, rechtsphilosophischem Verständnis und religiöser Überzeugung zeigt Alexander Hollerbach Sinnprinzipien und Grundstrukturen der Verfassung auf und verbindet sie zu einem Ganzen. Freiheit und Selbstbestimmung, Rechtsethik, Gerechtigkeit und Billigkeit sind zentrale Begriffe seines Denkens und Wirkens.Alexander Hollerbach ist für die Wissenschaft des Kirchen- und Staatskirchenrechts prägend geworden. Seine Habilitationsschrift "Verträge zwischen Staat und Kirche in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland" gilt noch heute als maßgebend. Der hier abgedruckte Aufsatz "Göttliches und Menschliches in der Ordnung der Kirche" steht beispielhaft für sein tiefes Wissen um den Zusammenhang von ius divinum und ius humanum. Das Wesentliche zu bewahren und zu entwickeln ist Alexander Hollerbach ein besonderes Anliegen. Dieses Streben findet Ausdruck in der Sorgfalt, mit der er sich der Geschichte seiner Wissenschaft widmet. Die Aufsätze über Leben und Werk seines Lehrers Erik Wolf gelten als stilprägend. Am 23. Januar 2006 hat Alexander Hollerbach sein 75. Lebensjahr vollendet. Mit der Sammlung seiner verstreut erschienenen Schriften wollen seine Schüler die Breite und die Bedeutung seines Wirkens veranschaulichen.
