Amelia

Give Amelia a book with their name on the cover and plenty to enjoy inside. Amelia: The Owner's Manual combines researched name history with affectionate adult humour: a personal-feeling present that offers more than the pleasure of spotting the right name.

Explore Amelia's relationship to Amalia, discover why Emilia has a different origin, and meet a varied company of historical and cultural namesakes. Among them is marine-algae collector Amelia Warren Griffiths, whose work opens an unexpectedly absorbing window onto the name's associations.

Alongside the research come dry British observations on personality, friendship, love, work, money, habits and luck, plus small triumphs, comic forecasts and the occasional administrative warning. Expect particular sympathy for the delicate business of enjoying an interest without accidentally volunteering to organise it for everyone else.

Read from cover to cover or open at random for a historical discovery, a familiar social complication or a joke worth sharing. The personality readings and predictions are completely unscientific fictional entertainment, not science or fortune-telling; a name supplies no evidence about its owner.

For a birthday, Christmas, name day or an affectionate just-because present, give Amelia a history to explore and a manual they are welcome to disagree with.
