माकडं - १ ते १० (Makada) is a Marathi counting rhyme for the youngest readers.
One monkey climbs the mango tree, eats a mango and throws away the stone. Two monkeys find the chikoo tree and spit out the seeds. Then come oranges, custard apples, bananas, guavas, watermelon, figs, strawberries and grapes, one more monkey every time, until ten full monkeys fall asleep under the vine.
Every verse follows the same easy pattern, so children join in after a page or two, and the peels, seeds and stalks left behind on each page give them something new to count. Written to be read aloud and sung, for children aged 0 to 6 growing up with Marathi, in India and around the world, and for the grown-ups who read with them.
